What will I do at Orientation?
You will meet with academic advisors, academic success specialists, student leaders, and others. During the program, you will receive your OneCard that you need to navigate Wayne State and learn about the many exciting academic programs and student activities here. You will leave your new campus at the end of the day as a registered Wayne State student!
Do I have to attend Orientation?
Based on the importance of learning about the University environment, the Board of Governors at Wayne State requires all new freshmen and freshman transfer students (transferring 30 or fewer credits) to attend New Student Orientation.
Students who are admitted directly to the following schools or colleges do not attend the general New Student Orientation sessions. Please contact the school or college directly for further information:

Will I meet with an advisor at Orientation?
Yes, you will meet with an experienced advisor who will help you choose your courses.
What should I bring with me to Orientation?
Photo Identification
Placement and/or Qualifying Exam results
AP exam results
CLEP results
Will I receive information about Financial Aid?
Yes. However, we encourage you to stop by the Welcome Center, 42 W. Warren, and talk with an advisor on any weekday. For questions, please call 313 577-3378.
Will I take Placement and/or Qualifying Exams at Orientation?
No, you will need to take your placement exams prior to your Orientation session. For information on the exams, please visit the Web at testing.wayne.edu and click the appropriate link under the "New Student" heading, or call Testing, Evaluation and Research at (313) 577-3400.
Can I still attend Orientation if I have not taken my placement exams?
Yes, but you will NOT be allowed to register for Chemistry, English, or Mathematics, until you have received your results.
Will I take a tour inside the residence halls at Orientation?
On the campus tour, we will show you the locations of the Residence Halls.
Do parents participate in Orientation?
The Dean of Students Office has coordinated special Parent Orientation Days for parents of incoming undergraduate students. For more information please visit the “Parents” link on this page.

Where do I go for Orientation?
Orientation is at the Welcome Center on main campus, at the corner of Warren and Woodward Avenue. The address is 42 W. Warren, Detroit, MI 48202. For directions and parking information, click the "Getting to Campus" link. Orientation parking is provided in Structure #6 at Cass and Putnam.
